Interesting that you mention politics as politicians often try to evoke sports analogies. I think parallels are where you find them, which is often the same as where you look. Business, sports, and politics each have similarities… in their ‘best of’ qualities as well as their ‘worst of’ qualities…. in the end, is there any more difference between a grouping of well executed touchdown drive, marketing campaign, and campaign strategy and that of a steriod scandal, insider trading, and political mud throwing?

As a rule, I’d guard against ruling out a basis of comparison just because we dislike a specifc subject matter… it may blind us to an area of weakness.

There sure is a lot of similarities between sports and business, thought I’d rather not liken both of them to politics…too many shady deals and dirty plays.

Great point and one that unfortunately isn’t being implemented at the political level. Professional politicians whose focus is the next election cycle aren’t up to facing our increasingly pressing challenges, which are long term in nature.
